3.4 Dev Daulton Writing 1

1 Foot Closer

Crashing a car will scar you for life. Being in a car crash is not something I wish upon anybody. There is a piece of your memory that will never let a moment like that go. Back in my Junior year of High School, I had just that.

Rear-Wheel-Drive

Did you know a jeep makes a rear-wheel-drive SUV? Yeah me neither, and no it did not have a four-wheel-drive mode. I learned that the hard way. It was mid-January, driving back home from school with my buddy in my Jeep Liberty Sport, taking the same route we always do. After a snowfall, the snowplows just went through, great right? Wrong.

On back roads, the plow will leave a nice even line of snow in the middle of the road, right on the yellow lines. Coming around a corner, I was driving slow because I know my car is rear-wheel-drive, we hit that perfect snow patch in the middle road, drifting the front end of my car over towards the 50-foot drop off to a forest of trees, first instinct? Turn the wheel the opposite way. We hit the pavement and shot towards the other side. Flying off the road, sliding down the side of a hill, jumping a driveway, and landing perfectly on the other side.

1 Foot

Gaining our composure back and realizing what the hell just happened. We hopped out to check out the damage. As we were looking, we followed our tire tracks back up the hill coming out to find that we were 1 foot away from going head on with a telephone pole. My buddy turns to me and goes "I wasn't buckled dude". It was a terrible experience all around. My memory has been scarred and I hate going around that corner. Be safe out there.

So, what did I learn? Always always always buckle up, never buy a rear-wheel-drive jeep in the Midwest, and always treat everyday like it's your last.
