Brave bull - TenisTur

When You Mess with the Bull...

I was 16 years old, going out to do my daily chores on the farm. I got to the point of checking on all of the cows, making sure they were all healthy. As I'm going through all of the cows, on my left side, I all of a sudden get hit by what felt like a freight train. Come to find out it was our bull that had blindsided me. After he hit me he had me pinned up against our wooden fence and proceeded to keep ramming into my gut, crushing my midsection as I am completely immobilized beside my arms. After a solid 15 seconds of getting pummeled by this couple thousand pound creature, adrenaline hits and I realized that I need to get out of here. To my luck, part of the wooden fence was rotted and was hanging off. I then reach out my right arm and was able to break off the wood with ease. Then taking the rotted piece of wood, I was able to stab it into the bull's left eye, thus disorienting it making it back off while flailing its head in rage.

Not Over Yet

Now that I got the bull off of me, I knew I had to get away before things got worse. As fast as I could, I lift myself over the fence and tried to land on my feet before quickly finding out that I can't walk. So I then have to crawl myself to my house to get help because I don't have a phone on me. My house was about 200 yards away and at crawling pace, which I learned is about a 30 minute shimmy from my experience. To make this trek even better, I am in the worst pain of my life while throwing up blood. I finally am able to get to the front door of my house and pounded on it. I was greeted by my dad and at that moment I had given all I had and blacked out.

The Aftermath

After waking up at the hospital I was able to explain what happened to my family and come to find out I came out of the incident with only a couple broken ribs and minimal organ damage. I ended up making a really fast recovery and already feeling better after a few weeks. After getting home and talking with my family I came to find out that this was a new bull that had just came the day before that my dad didn't tell me about. The fun thing about new bulls is that they are extremely aggressive and on edge until they get used to the unfamiliar cows and surroundings. So, it was a recipe for disaster the second I stepped over that wooden fence.

Though I was lucky enough to not end up with any long term damage, I will never forget this day, as it was easily the most pain I've ever been in and the closest I've ever been to death. To think the animals I raised from birth to adulthood were almost the ones that took me out. Let's just say that bull didn't get to stay around too much longer after that.
