Rubbing Elbows With Celebrity Nathan Fillion
Picture your favorite celebrity. One that you would love to meet someday. Now, try to imagine a moment where that celebrity is right in front of you. How would you feel? How would you react? Would you be able to keep it together? Nathan Fillion is that celebrity for me and my moment came while attending the World Premiere Red Carpet event for Cars 3 back in June of 2017.
When I first got my invite to the event and saw the list of the cast that we'd be interviewing, I exclaimed to my husband, "OMG! I'm going to meet and interview Nathan Fillion!"
Nathan Fillion has starred in some fantastic movies and television programs. Most recently, one of my favorite shows, The Rookie. He has also done some voice acting, including voicing Sterling in the movie Cars 3. At the World Premiere of Cars 3, is where I was rubbing elbows with Nathan Fillion.
Attending a Red Carpet Event
Attending a red carpet event is definitely a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. You might see coverage on television or pictures from the event but never imagine that you would be able to witness it live, in person. I felt excited, nervous, overwhelmed, and grateful all at the same time.
I remember looking over at my friend Sherry and asking, "Can you believe that we are here? That we are actually walking on the red carpet?" It is very surreal.
Then comes the moment. The moment you meet that one celebrity, you fangirl (or boy) over. My moment did not happen until later in the evening at the after-party. The after-party for the premiere was held in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure.
Meeting Nathan Fillion
There are many 'celebrity sightings' and chances to get pictures, but we had not spotted Nathan at all that night. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. That is what happened with Nathan. It was getting towards the end of the night, my friend and I looked up, and there he was, dancing right in front of us.
For me, I do not like to 'bother' celebrities at events. Especially when they are attending with their family and friends. When it is an animated film, some even bring their children. And, as a parent, I understand how hard it is sometimes to juggle everything, especially in this type of situation. So I tend to observe from a bit of a distance and gauge if it would be okay to approach.
Nathan was so open and inviting that I felt like I could approach him, say hi, and ask for a picture. I got up my nerve and did just that. He was so friendly and nice and happily took a selfie with me. I was so nervous that I did not even manage to look at the right camera lens on my phone. I have no idea what I said to him and probably bumbled everything I was trying to say. The good news is, I am pretty sure Nathan does not remember either.
How did I end up at the Cars 3 World Premiere?
Are you now wondering how on earth I had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? I have been fortunate enough to work with Disney for the last ten years and have been invited to cover events like these. We spend one or two days in interviews with cast members, producers, directors, and writers. Sometimes the red carpet event is included as well.
At these events, I have tried to remain professional and keep the awkward moments to a minimum. I generally do not fangirl with celebrities, but I was not so calm and collected with Nathan. But, neither here nor there, it sure is a day that I will remember forever, and I am glad that I had my moment.
Is there a celebrity you would fangirl (or boy) over? Let me know in the comments.
